New Publisher New Editor
From February 2007 Envoi will be published by Cinnamon Press and edited by Jan Fortune Wood.
Cinnamon Press is a relatively new family-run press that began publishing the journal Coffee House Poetry in 2003 and has just completed its first year of book publications.
In the last year we have launched a major anthology at the Hay Festival in aid of the Meningitis Trust of Wales and had one of our collections short-listed for the Forward Prize. We have a growing list of poetry and fiction with around 20 new books due out in the next twelve months. We also run major competitions for publishing novels, short stories, novellas and, of course, first poetry collections.
Coffee House Poetry has fast become a high quality journal show-casing new work from Wales, the UK and internationally. From May/June 2007 Coffee House Poetry will be subsumed within the new-look Envoi and anyone subscribing to both Coffee House Poetry and Envoi will receive an equivalent number of extra Envoi issues.
From Wales to the World
For the second time in its 50 year history Envoi is being produced from Wales, a country with a strong tradition of poetry and narrative. As editors and publishers of Coffee House Poetry we worked hard to produce a magazine that reflected the best in Welsh writing set on an international platform. This is a feature we hope to continue in Envoi. Poets from Wales, the UK and the world at large are all welcome to submit to Envoi.

Change and Continuity
CHP and Envoi already share many editorial ideals which will be maintained in the change to a new editor. Selecting new poetry with an emphasis on quality, not the writer’s name; including informed reviews of new poetry publications; featuring work from excellent poets and a tradition of open poetry competitions are already common to both magazines, which will remain in place. Envoi will also continue to carry occasional poetry related articles and poetry in translation.
We are mindful that changes can be disruptive and shouldn't be made for their own sake. That said, we hope that we can bring some fresh ideas that will make a great magazine even better, particularly in its 50th year and as we work towards the 150th issue.
Envoi will continue to be perfect bound, but will have an improved full colour, matt laminate cover in a larger format to improve the presentation of poetry on the page. There will be 96 pages, rather than the current 128, but with the larger format the space for content will actually be slightly greater than previously.
We’re also switching to a Palatino font, which is easy to read and enhances visual impact. All of these changes are intended to carry forward Envoi's long tradition of presenting quality contemporary poetry to discerning readers.
The All New Envoi Web Site
Another change is the web site and email access. You can send submissions via email or land mail and the web site will keep readers informed of competitions as well as displaying examples of the poetry Envoi publishes and carrying reviews.
